The promenade from Tallital to Mallital runs a level mile along the shore, lit and busy after sunset. Woollens, candles, bookshops and bal mithai the whole way.

The ropeway from Mallital climbs to Snow View at 2,270 m for the Nanda Devi range on clear days. We book slots the evening before to skip the queue.

Two classic viewpoints above the town — Tiffin Top through the oak and deodar, Naina Peak for the highest outlook over the lake and the plains beyond.

The lakeside temple at the north end of the Mall, quietest at dawn, followed by tea at the flats before the town wakes.

Sattal, Naukuchiatal and Bhimtal in one unhurried loop, timed to be back on the Mall before the evening crowd.
