Ages, timings, what to pack and how to keep a six-year-old happy in an open jeep at five in the morning.
Children are welcome on every Corbett safari, and with a little preparation the morning drive becomes the memory they carry home.
Start with timing. The dawn slot is colder but far richer in sightings; the afternoon slot is warmer and shorter, which suits younger children better.
Pack layers, a flask of something warm, binoculars they are allowed to hold themselves, and a small notebook. A child with a job — spotting deer, counting birds — stays engaged for the full three hours.
Our naturalists brief families the evening before, so the questions get asked over dinner rather than in the jeep at first light.
